COOKING WITH FRIENDS IN FRANCE OFFERS WINTER TRUFFLE PROGRAM

Program features cooking classes in Julia Child's former Provence kitchen and an authentic truffle hunt in the Var

Chateauneuf de Grasse, France ­ For cooking enthusiasts who have always been fascinated with the elusive black truffle, Cooking With Friends in France is offering a special Winter Truffle Program that features an authentic truffle hunt among the oak trees in the Var.

"This special program will give our guests the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to participate in a real-live truffle hunt," said Kathie Alex, chef and owner of Cooking With Friends in France.  "Our cooking will focus on heartier Provencal winter fare, and our guests will experience the beauty and magic of Provence in the winter months without the flocks of tourists."

The Cooking With Friends in France new Winter Truffle Program begins on Sunday evening with a traditional winter Provencal dinner.  Each weekday is balanced with a variety of classes and plenty of free time for guests to explore the countryside on their own.  The program includes wine and cheese tastings, quaint fireside suppers, olive oil tastings, and cooking class with a local French chef.

Without question the highlight of the week is a day in the Var featuring a truffle hunt.  Complete with a specially trained dog - chien truffier - the group participates with a local truffle digger - caveur - and guide.  The traditional hunt is followed by a lunch featuring a variety of truffle specialties and wines from the region.  The truffles found during the hunt will be used in the recipes on the following day.  

The cost of the Cooking With Friends in France winter truffle program includes accommodations; five classes (including an authentic truffle hunt, class with a local chef, wine and cheese tastings, and olive oil tastings); 12 meals - six breakfasts, two lunches, and four dinners; expert restaurant and activity recommendations from Kathie Alex; and transportation to the truffle hunt.

Cooking With Friends in France is a six day cooking school vacation located in the former home of Julia Child in Provence.  It was at La Pitchoune where Julia and Simone "Simca" Beck wrote their Mastering the Art of French Cooking series.  Kathie Alex, a former student of Simca's and the present owner of the house, started Cooking With Friends in France seven years ago to keep the culinary tradition of Julia and Simca alive at La Pitchoune and to share the cuisine and culture of Provence with her students.
